About the museum
The Squillace diocesan museum holds much of the treasure of the Norman cathedral, destroyed by the earthquake of 1783, together with works from across the diocese. The works, dating roughly from the 14th to the 19th century, are displayed in five rooms.
Among the most significant pieces are a Neapolitan altar cross, a gilt silver chalice set with precious stones, the 16th-century “Borgia chasuble”, two marble statues of the Annunciation, a Roman bust from the excavations at Scolacium, and numerous textiles and liturgical objects. Guided tours are offered.
