About the museum

The Catanzaro diocesan museum is located in Via Arcivescovado and gathers works from ancient medieval parishes, from the churches of convents and monasteries, from the cathedral and from the historic diocese of Catanzaro. The display occupies three rooms.

The most important core is the treasure of the old cathedral, with numerous sacred vestments and a rich collection of silverware. Among the most notable pieces are a chalice of 1654 by Fra Lorenzo da Catanzaro, a processional cross of 1695 by Giovan Battista Buonacquisto and a gold monstrance of 1933 by Giuseppe Guelfi.
