About the museum
The museum opened in 2006 to gather and enhance the ecclesiastical heritage of Pesaro, which had long been scattered across closed churches and storerooms. It is located in the underground rooms of Palazzo Lazzarini, a building of 1788 that once housed the seminary, in Via Rossini, opposite the cathedral.
The route, covering almost two thousand years of history, is divided into an archaeological section and a historical-artistic section. The first includes early medieval sarcophagi, Roman inscriptions and fragments of early Christian mosaic floors, including those from the Duomo. The second holds a Byzantine ivory pyx of the 6th century, Renaissance and Baroque wooden statues, silverware and liturgical textiles.
A multimedia room, conceived as an introduction to the mosaics of the cathedral, offers an immersive route linked to visits of the Duomo.
