About the museum
The Museo Episcopale di Venosa (MEV) is in largo Vescovado, beside the co-cathedral dedicated to Sant’Andrea Apostolo, about fifty metres from the house of the poet Horace. It was inaugurated in the co-cathedral on 22 June 2017 in the presence of representatives of the diocese, regional institutions and the Soprintendenza (heritage authority); the ceremony ended with a visit to the museum and the Episcopio.
The museum is part of the Ufficio diocesano per i beni culturali ecclesiastici (diocesan office for ecclesiastical cultural heritage) of the Diocese of Melfi-Rapolla-Venosa. The diocese has announced that it will reopen the museum to the public at weekends.
