About the museum
The museum is in the lower Cervino valley, at the municipal library, and brings back to life the mountain way of life of earlier times and the evenings spent with the family. In Franco-Provençal, “veillà” means “veglia” (evening gathering), the custom of spending the long winter evenings in the stable with family and friends: people talked, told legends and stories, carved wood and repaired farm tools, while the women spun or knitted.
The rooms recreate the way of life of the past, when the warmth of the animals was used to heat the living spaces. The route moves from the kitchen, where a mother and her daughter do the household chores, to the stable, where a father and son tend the animals: the calf, the sheep, the lamb, the goat, the hen and the rabbit. Farm tools used in the past are also on display.
