About the museum

The Museo etnografico Val Trebbia opened in June 2000 to preserve, enhance and pass on the memory of the peasant civilisation of the Val Trebbia. It is at Callegari, a small hamlet above Cassolo in the municipality of Bobbio, and is run by the Focopi delegation.

The seat consists of old peasant dwellings typical of the rural architecture of the Piacenza Apennines, preserved in their original state and restored to maintain their character. The route unfolds through 14 rooms of about 400 square metres open to visitors, with about 2,000 objects, work tools and furnishings from the 17th century to the early post-war period, and continues outdoors through courtyards, porticoes, cowsheds, wood-fired ovens and vegetable gardens.

The “Sale della Memoria” (Rooms of Memory) include, among others, the costume room, the kitchen, the weaving room, the bedroom, the carpentry workshop, the cowshed, the milk room, the cellar, the hayloft and the granary. The display favours the reconstruction of the settings and functions of everyday life over the mere quantity of objects.
