About the museum
The Museo della Città occupies the rooms of the former refectory, kitchen, lavabo (washing area) and cellar of the monastery of San Colombano in Bobbio, and is run by the municipality. It offers an introductory route to the history of the abbey and the town.
The display has been renewed recently: an introductory video in an immersive setting tells the story of Bobbio, while digital reproductions present some ancient illuminated codices produced in the abbey’s scriptorium. In the cellars there is also a small mineral museum and an exhibition of photographs by Gino Macellari.
Access is through the main gate into the cloister of the Abbey of San Colombano, in the same complex as the Museo dell’Abbazia and other collections.
