About the museum
The house museum is located in Rabernardo, a Walser village at 1,560 metres in Val Vogna, in the municipality of Alagna Valsesia. It is a mid-17th-century farmhouse converted into an ethnographic museum and now part of the Cav. Carlo Locca museum circuit, which also includes museums in Guardabosone.
The building, made of stone and wood, has four floors. The stone base houses the cowshed and the living room with its soapstone stove; in the Firhus, the only room with a hearth, food was cooked and cheese was made. On the upper floors, built with crossed larch logs (block-bau), are the bedrooms and work spaces, while the typical balconies (lobbie) were used to dry hay. Under the stone roof was the hayloft with its threshing floor.
Visits are always guided, so that the encounter with Walser heritage is an experience dedicated to each visitor.
