About the museum
The museum, open to the public since 1981, holds the works donated to the Italian State by Giacomo Manzù (1908–1991) in 1979. It stands at the foot of the hill of Ardea, in a green area that also houses outdoor sculptures, and today it comes under the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Lazio.
The collection comprises about ninety sculptures, mostly in bronze, and about three hundred and thirty drawings, prints and theatre sketches, as well as some fifty jewels, medals and punches. The route highlights above all the artist’s work between the 1950s and the 1970s.
Among the best-known groups are the series of the Cardinals, begun in 1938, the Lovers of 1965, the reliefs of 1939 with the Deposition and the Crucifixion, and the preparatory reliefs for the doors of Salzburg and Rotterdam. The sculpture Nastro stands in the garden.
