About the museum
The Museo Giardino geologico “Sandra Forni” brings together rocks, minerals, fossils and soils assembled by the Geology, Soils and Seismic Area of the Emilia-Romagna Region. It is named after Sandra Forni, a colleague in the regional geological and seismic service who died in 2005.
The museum is spread across three places in Bologna: the foyer of the Terza Torre of the Region at Viale della Fiera 8, the themed path in the greenery in front of the tower (Kenzo Tange garden) and the foyer of the seat of the Legislative Assembly at Viale Aldo Moro 50.
The indoor section offers a route through the basic concepts of Earth sciences, with a part on regional geology. In the garden, the exposed rocks document the geological history of Emilia-Romagna from about 250 million years ago, from the formation of the Apennines to that of the plain and the Adriatic coast. A 360° virtual tour is also available on the Region’s website.
