About the museum
The Casa Rossa, so called for the colour of its plaster, was built in 1906 in Bellaria by the writer Alfredo Panzini, who had spent his holidays there with his family for years. It stands on a dune in the Cagnona area, on the avenue parallel to the Rimini–Ravenna railway that now bears his name, and in the town it was known as “e palàz” (the palace). It was a summer residence, a writing studio and a meeting place: guests included Alfredo Oriani, Marino Moretti, Renato Serra and Filippo De Pisis, and his wife, the painter Clelia Gabrielli, organised gatherings there.
In 1917 the house was requisitioned to accommodate refugees from Veneto, in 1944 it was hit by bombing, and in 1976 the heirs sold it to private owners. In 2004, thanks to the Fondazione Carim, the Comune di Bellaria Igea Marina was able to buy the house with its park. The restoration of 2006 brought the original wall paintings back to light.
After the display, entrusted to Claudio Ballestracci, the house opened to the public in June 2007. It preserves some of the writer’s furniture, including a desk, a display cabinet, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe, as well as paintings by Clelia. The Panzini archive, with correspondence, manuscripts and photographs, is kept in the Biblioteca comunale “A. Panzini”.
