About the museum
The Museo Sommariva “Civiltà dell’Olio” was created at the wish of the Sommariva family and is entirely devoted to the culture of oil, one of the oldest and most important crafts in Liguria. It stands beside the walls of the historic centre of Albenga, a short walk from Porta Torlaro.
Between 2008 and 2010 the museum was enlarged from 200 to 400 square metres and is now connected by an underground tunnel to the Frantoio Sommariva, which has been in operation since 1915. Finds, tools and documents tell the story of oil production. In its rooms the family also hosts paintings, sculptures and photographs by local and international contemporary artists.
