About the museum

The Museo Ladin de Fascia is the museum of the Istituto Culturale Ladino “Majon di Fascegn” and has its main seat in San Giovanni di Fassa. The seat, opened in 2001, is joined by sections across the territory, former ethnographic buildings recovered with the help of local organisations, which together form an ethnographic route along the whole valley.

The exhibition route tells, through testimonies of material and intangible culture, how the Ladin community took shape, with its own language and a particular history. It starts from the first archaeological finds and reaches the present day, touching on productive activities, institutional organisation, civil and religious rites, popular traditions and contemporary artistic expressions.

The rooms display an important part of the museum's ethnographic collections, the result of more than forty years of research and fieldwork, alongside period images and short thematic films that explain how the objects were used and their context. The museum has a multimedia room for events and educational activities, and a bookshop. Among the sections on the territory are, for example, the sawmill “La Sia” at Penia, the mill “L Molin” at San Giovanni and the section on cheese-making.
