Museo di Someda

About the museum

The museum is in Someda, a hamlet of Moena about two kilometres from the village. It was set up by the association Sul Fronte dei Ricordi in the “Stala de la Nenola”, a traditional building of the area. The association is a non-profit historical group: its president, Livio Defrancesco, began collecting finds from the First World War front as a boy in the late 1960s and has since campaigned for the restoration, rather than the destruction, of wartime structures.

The route displays weapons, ammunition and uniforms alongside everyday objects and original historical photographs. There are also reconstructions of elements of the front line, such as a machine-gun nest, a trench and a barracks room. The exhibition explains how Moena lived for almost three years in direct contact with the front line.

With the work of volunteers, the association also maintains trenches, positions and historic paths in the area, which can be walked as themed routes.
