About the museum

The museum is dedicated to Marino Marini, born in Pistoia in 1901 and one of the great sculptors of the 20th century. It was established in 1983 by the institutions of Pistoia together with the artist's widow, Mercedes Pedrazzini, in the former convent of the Tau, bought and restored by the municipality of Pistoia. The Palazzo del Tau is a 14th-century seat of the hospital order of Sant'Antonio Abate. Since 2008 some of the Foundation's bronzes have also been visible in the adjoining former church of the Tau.

The works of the Fondazione Marino Marini are arranged by theme: the Pomone, the portraits, the horses and riders, and the worlds of the circus and the theatre. Since 2019 the palace has been closed to the public for building adaptation reasons. In recent years some rooms have been reopened only temporarily, with a selection of works, as in July 2024 and between December 2024 and January 2025.

Meanwhile, the Foundation and the municipality have promoted initiatives to revive the documentation centre and the whole complex of the former convent and former church of the Tau. These include the exhibition “Marino Marini: La pittura”, shown in 2026 at Palazzo Fabroni.
