About the museum

The museum aims to present the Calatino area and in particular its most interesting natural features. The exhibits, mainly Sicilian and from the local area, are arranged in an educational style, and the spaces are rich in images, diagrams and maps.

The route is divided into three sections. The introductory section presents the Calatino from a geographical and anthropological point of view, with summary panels and display cases of artefacts that document human presence. The geology section illustrates the geological history of Sicily and some of the most significant palaeontological and mineralogical features of the area. The biology section is devoted to the forest ecosystem, the woods of the Calatino and in particular those of Santo Pietro and Niscemi, protected by the nature reserves “Bosco di Santo Pietro” and “Sughereta di Niscemi”.
