About the museum

The museum is located in the Spinarba area, on the basalt plateau of Sa Corona Arrùbia, between the countryside of Lunamatrona and Collinas, and is run by the Consorzio Turistico Sa Corona Arrùbia. It is named after Giovanni Pusceddu, a figure linked to the promotion of the culture and environment of the area. It stands in the Parco Geobotanico del Mediterraneo, an area of about 61 hectares with Mediterranean scrub and easy trails.

The permanent route includes sections on fauna, botany and anthropology. In the fauna hall, the typical habitats of the area, such as holm oak woods, riparian areas and dry grasslands, are reconstructed at full scale. The botany section includes a mycotheca, a xylotheque and a herbarium. The archaeology section offers a full-scale prehistoric house and scale reproductions of local sites, such as the Genna Maria nuraghe, domus de janas, a tomba dei giganti and the sacred well of Sant'Anastasia. The anthropology section documents the rural life of the Marmilla in the first half of the 20th century.

The collections also include more than a hundred stuffed animals from the Piarist Fathers of Sanluri, around two hundred traditional Sardinian toys (Giogus Antigus), a collection of seventy contemporary artworks from the Arte52 project, and Dr Barsanti's physics cabinet, which is not yet open to the public.
