About the museum
The Sa Fogaia park occupies the eastern slope of the basalt plateau known as Pranu de Siddi (Giara di Siddi), at about 330 metres above sea level and just over a kilometre from the village. The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times: this is shown by a nuraghe, remains of Nuragic, Punic and Roman settlements, and obsidian from Monte Arci linked to a processing workshop. More recent are the terracing, stone heaps, shepherds’ enclosures and other traces of agricultural and pastoral use of the land, which for centuries was municipal public land.
The nuraghe is of the corridor type, built on the edge of a cliff over three hundred metres high, with an unusual Y-shaped plan; it was later extended with two additional structures and secondary rooms. The entrance lies about five metres above the ground and is reached by a stepped ramp. In the inner courtyard, materials from the late Punic and Roman periods were found.
The site has been a nature and archaeology park since 2002 and is owned by the Comune di Siddi. Management is now entrusted to a group led by the Cooperativa Villa Silli. The botanical trail “su mori de is erbas” runs through holm oak groves and Mediterranean scrub and allows visitors to identify over a hundred plant species thanks to wooden labels; more than sixty bird species have been recorded in the park. A panoramic area offers views over the Marmilla, the giare (basalt plateaus) of Gesturi and Serri, and the Gennargentu.
