About the museum
The museum grew out of the passion of Vincenzo De Rose, born in Fagnano Castello in 1937, who emigrated for almost twenty years to Corsica and Switzerland. Returning to the village in 1977, he began to collect objects, utensils and tools of the old rural, forestry and craft civilisation, which were destined to be thrown away or destroyed. In the first half of the 1990s he displayed the collection in the garage of his house, which soon became a destination for fellow townspeople, tourists and school groups.
De Rose later donated the entire collection to the municipality, on condition that it be housed in suitable premises and be free to visit. In 2005, thanks to the commitment of the municipality and of the Comunità montana Unione delle Valli, the museum opened in municipal premises in Via Garibaldi. In October 2021 it was named after its founder.
The collection includes finds, tools and photographs that show life in the houses, fields, workshops and streets of Fagnano Castello up to the immediate postwar period, the result of donations and patient restoration work.
