About the museum

The parish museum of Gromo was created in 2007 on the initiative of parish priest Don Virgilio Fenaroli, who had a derelict building beside the church of the Santi Giacomo Maggiore e Vincenzo levita, above the chapel of San Benedetto, restored. The museum opened to the public in the centenary year of the birth of Bishop Luigi Morstabilini, a native of the hamlet of Ripa, to whom the museum and one room are dedicated.

The parish possessed sacred furnishings of considerable value, the fruit of bequests and donations from the inhabitants of a town that enjoyed a period of great wealth in the 15th and 16th centuries thanks to the production and trade of high-quality edged weapons. The museum aims to make this heritage public, to preserve it and to bear witness to the faith and history of the community.

The route is spread over two floors. On the ground floor are ten paintings of the Apostles by Antonio Cifrondi, an 18th-century chest and the room dedicated to Monsignor Morstabilini, with the chasuble and vestments worn during the Second Vatican Council and two large crucifixes from the Good Friday procession. On the upper floor are Cartagloria in silver frames, liturgical lamps, 17th-century wooden angels and a small gilded throne for the monstrance.
