About the museum
The Museo Pavesiano is housed in the complex of the Fondazione Cesare Pavese, in the historic centre of Santo Stefano Belbo, the Langhe village where the writer was born in 1908. The Foundation, which aims to spread and promote Pavese’s human and professional legacy, brings together in one complex the museum, the civic library, the church of SS. Giacomo e Cristoforo converted into an auditorium, a conference room and guest rooms for students and scholars.
The museum, described by the Foundation as recently renovated, tells Pavese’s story across four rooms. Rooms 1 and 3 display books that belonged to the writer, first editions, foreign editions, volumes with dedications and some personal objects. Room 2 traces the stages of his life and work, with stations where passages from his works can be read. In room 4, titled “Dialoghi” and dedicated since 2022 to Maurizio Cossa Majno di Capriglio, an interactive multimedia display presents materials from the Molina and Vaudagna collections, donated by two families and fully available in digital form.
Among the most precious pieces is the original copy of the “Dialoghi con Leucò”, in which Pavese wrote his last sentence. Some panels show original manuscripts of the writer’s works, produced in collaboration with the Centro Studi “Guido Gozzano-Cesare Pavese” and the Archivio di Stato (State Archive).
