About the museum
The Museo Pericle Fazzini is dedicated to the sculptor Pericle Fazzini, who died in 1987, and opened in 2006 in Santa Maria degli Angeli, a hamlet of Assisi, in Piazza Garibaldi, near the basilica. It is housed in the Palazzo del Capitano del Perdono, a 17th-century building erected between 1615 and 1620 to accommodate the magistrate responsible for supervising pilgrims during the Feast of the Perdono di Assisi (Pardon of Assisi).
The collection includes about fifty works by the artist. The permanent route occupies three rooms on the first floor and the connecting corridor, while a room on the upper floor is used for temporary exhibitions. Among the best-known works is the 1939 wooden sculpture “San Francesco parla e accarezza il lupo” (Saint Francis speaks to and strokes the wolf).
