About the museum
The Museo Renata Tebaldi occupies the west wing of the ground floor of the Palazzo delle Scuderie of Villa Pallavicino in Busseto, a building from the early 18th century restored between 2011 and 2014. The museum was opened on 7 June 2014 by the Comitato Renata Tebaldi, founded in 2005 to preserve the memory of the singer. In 2024 the Fondazione Museo Renata Tebaldi ETS was established, which looks after the artistic and cultural heritage of the soprano; the building remains the property of the Municipality of Busseto.
Many of the objects on display were collected by her mother, Giuseppina Barbieri, and by her governess and friend Ernestina Viganò. The route is divided into six rooms: documents with honours and letters, stage jewellery made by Italian goldsmiths in the 1930s and 1940s, Renata’s personal room with objects and dresses dear to the singer, the room dedicated to Madama Butterfly, photographs of performances and meetings with figures such as Paolo Grassi and Maria Callas and, in the largest room, the stage costumes of roles such as Desdemona, Tosca, Manon, Fedora, Aida and Alice Ford, with sketches and creations also by Giorgio de Chirico and Nicola Benois. The display was designed by the fashion designer Daniela Gerini.
