About the museum
The museum is dedicated to Renato Brozzi, born in Traversetolo on 7 August 1885 into a modest family. He learned the art of chasing in a bronze foundry in the town and studied at the Regio Istituto di Belle Arti in Parma, where he qualified in three years. Gabriele D’Annunzio described him as “the greatest Italian animal artist since Pisanello”.
The collections come from the artist’s home and studio: over 8,000 drawings, about 900 photographs, some ninety letters from D’Annunzio, around eighty plaster casts and about a hundred works of applied art, plaquettes and sculptures. The core is largely devoted to the animal world, a theme in which Brozzi excelled. The museum has taken part in a project funded by the PNRR (Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan) to remove physical and cognitive barriers.
