About the museum

The museum is run by the Fondazione Rodolfo Valentino, founded in Castellaneta on 13 February 2009 to preserve the memory of the actor, who was born in the town on 6 May 1895, and to promote the local area and its traditional products. The foundation's honorary presidency is held by the actor's niece, Sylvia Valentino.

The route begins in the Sala del Grande Amatore, where a series of panels illustrates Valentino's seductive appeal and the roles that made him famous. The next section is devoted to “Mito” (the myth): his films, his public life, the cult that surrounded him and his funeral, one of the great mass events of the twentieth century.

Among the objects on display are the bed he slept in as a boy, film posters and a reconstruction of a set from “Il figlio dello sceicco”. A film tells the story of his life, and visitors can have their photo taken in period costumes.
