About the museum
The Museo Storico della Motorizzazione Militare was established in 1955 and is described as the only Italian museum dedicated to the vehicles that marked a century of military motorisation. It is housed in the military complex of the Cecchignola, south of Rome, accessed from Viale dell’Esercito.
The collections comprise more than three hundred vehicles spread across six pavilions, along with historic technical materials of the Army, period books and photographs, a library-archive and a multimedia hall for exhibitions and meetings.
Among the exhibits are the Bernardi tricycle of 1894, the Renault taxi of the Marne, early Fiat and Ceirano models, the Lancia Lambda, Astura and Artena, the presidential cars used by Presidents Leone and Pertini, and historic motorcycles such as the Frera, the Moto Guzzi 3x3 and the Indian.
