About the museum
The Museo Archivio Reale Mutua was founded in 2007 as an exhibition archive and reopened on 8 March 2014 after a thorough renovation, with eight rooms full of documents, photographs, films and multimedia effects. The documentary heritage has been recognised by the Soprintendenza del Piemonte e della Valle d'Aosta as being of considerable historical interest. Since 2016 the museum has been part of the Museimpresa association, and since 2018 it has developed the #MUSEOINCLUSIVO project.
The museum is housed in Palazzo Biandrate Aldobrandino di San Giorgio, a building of late medieval origin regarded as one of Turin's 17th-century palaces. The first document mentioning it dates from 1570; in 1877 it was bought by Reale Mutua, which made it its first owned headquarters. A restoration promoted in 2012 returned the interiors to their former splendour and restored to the city the fresco cycle on the piano nobile (main floor) by Sebastiano Taricco.
The museum recounts almost two hundred years of the company's history and of insurance mutuality. Visitors can choose between three routes: historical, from the Risorgimento (Italian unification) to the present; values-based, on mutuality as a process of collective protection; and artistic, focusing on the piano nobile of the palazzo.
