About the museum
The museum is housed in the Florence seat of the Istituto Geografico Militare, in Via Cesare Battisti, and collects the instruments used over time to produce official cartography. It is an indoor scientific and technological museum with over 400 items.
The collection includes instruments of astronomy, geodesy, topography, cartographic photogrammetry and calculation. The route allows visitors to follow the evolution of the techniques by which the territory has been measured and represented.
Access is only by reservation, because the site is an active military institute. Some special visits, which also include the Attilio Mori library, have been organised on the occasion of the Giornate FAI.
