About the museum

The Museo Veneto delle Campane (MuVeC) opened to the public in March 2002. It is run by the Fondazione Museo Veneto delle Campane Daciano Colbachini and honours the tradition of the Colbachini family, who have been making bells since 1745; in 1898 the foundry received the title of Fonderia Pontificia (papal foundry). The current company, IVG Colbachini, supports the museum’s cultural projects.

The seat is a part of Villa Fogazzaro-Colbachini, a Venetian villa surrounded by a large park. The collections number more than 200 bells – according to the museum the richest collection in Italy – coming from Europe, India, China, Thailand, Burma and other countries, spanning from Roman times to the present day.

The route is arranged in five spaces: Chinese, Indian, Burmese and Thai bells alongside Italian examples, including bells of Gothic form; bells from Venetian foundries, in particular Colbachini; bells used on ships and boats; small bells and large cowbells; and the Fonderia Statica, which illustrates the traditional method of making a bell. The museum offers educational routes, concerts and events.
