The exhibition presents the painter from the Valle Imagna, trained in the workshop of Giovanni Bellini in Venice, with Madonnas, Sacre Conversazioni, portraits and landscapes, the reassembled Serina triptych, and works by contemporaries such as Palma il Vecchio and Cariani.
About the museum
The villa was built between 1566 and 1576, when the physician Giovanni Antonio Secco transformed a rural building into a “casa grande da statio” (a large country house), with a three-arched loggia and two side towers, in front of a garden and with a kitchen garden and orchard behind. In 1769 it passed to the Dondi dall'Orologio brothers, who updated it to the taste of the time with polychrome stucco and figures on the raised floor, covering the 16th-century fresco cycle.
After the Camposampiero and the Zasio di Feltre families, who owned it until the 1970s, the building was bought by the municipality of Abano Terme, in the same years in which the council received from Roberto Bassi Rathgeb (1911–1972), a native of Bergamo, the bequest of a valuable art collection. The villa was named after the donor and, from the 1990s, was restored, with the recovery of its interior decorations, to house the collection and make it a cultural centre for the town.
The museum holds more than 400 works: paintings, drawings, engravings, miniatures, archaeological finds, antique armour, objects and furniture. The route also includes the frescoed loggia and hall and the works of Andrea Previtali.
