About the museum
The museum opened at the end of summer 2010 on the ruins of one of the military structures built on the island during the Second World War, near the lighthouse of Punta Spadillo. For many years it housed the Museo vulcanologico of the Riserva naturale orientata di Pantelleria, run in agreement with the Sicilian Region.
With the establishment of the Parco nazionale Isola di Pantelleria, management passed to the Ente Parco, which turned it into one of its visitor centres and strengthened the themes of biodiversity and environmental sustainability.
The three rooms are devoted to the activities of the Park, with a large image of the trail network, geovolcanological aspects and biodiversity. Around 50 rock samples are on display, representing the island’s eruptive and petrographic variety, together with panels on Pantelleria’s volcanic history and on opportunities for nature tourism. Park staff and CAI guides can accompany visitors to discover endemic species, volcanoes, trails, agricultural produce and the island’s rural architecture.
