About the museum

The civic museum of Mazara del Vallo is housed in the former Jesuit College, a 17th-century building of baroque elegance overlooking Piazza Plebiscito in the historic centre of the city.

The collections include archaeological finds from the Copper Age to the Late Byzantine period and a substantial collection of paintings. One room is devoted to Pietro Consagra, an important abstract sculptor born in Mazara del Vallo, and presents engravings, aquatints, reliefs and small-scale versions of some of his major sculptures.
