About the museum
The Museo NINA was founded to preserve the history of Civitella del Tronto, a royal, noble and frontier town that was a point of cultural and commercial exchange. The name commemorates Gaetana Graziani Scesi, known as Nina, who recovered and looked after the pieces from which the collection grew; the initial acronym NACT stood for “Nina, Arti Creative Tessili”.
Thanks to numerous donations, the museum now displays more than 3,000 pieces covering all the decorative arts and, after a new display, has taken the name “Museo NINA Civitella del Tronto”. The collection includes one of the largest Italian collections on the history of textiles and fashion, from the late 18th century to the postwar period, as well as documents, haute couture dresses, jewellery, military uniforms and everyday objects.
Among the most important pieces are a green silk cover linked to the visit of Ferdinando II di Borbone in 1832, a 16th-century Ushak carpet from the Kronprinz palace in Berlin, a gilded 18th-century small throne and the first Italian public debt certificate, drawn up in Naples in 1862.
