About the museum
The Officina Pellegrini consists of two former farm buildings on the hills of Monte San Pietro, which the painter and set designer Gino Pellegrini converted in the 1990s into his home, studio and workshop. The name “Officina” (workshop) evokes the craft work that was carried out there.
Gino Pellegrini, born in Lugo di Vicenza, emigrated to the United States at the age of sixteen. There he trained as a set designer and worked for about fifteen years in the Hollywood studios, on films by Disney, Hitchcock and Kubrick. After returning to Italy he devoted himself to painting and experimented with many techniques, creating works for large public spaces and on paper.
Today the house preserves and displays his works, notes, projects, ideas and working tools, most of them handcrafted. The Associazione Culturale e Ricreativa “Officina Pellegrini”, based in the house, catalogues and documents the material and promotes exhibitions, educational activities and visits for schools and groups. The house is recognised by the Emilia-Romagna Region as one of the homes and studios of distinguished personalities.
