About the museum
The Rancilio story begins in 1926 in a small mechanical workshop in the centre of Parabiago, opened by Roberto Rancilio, a young worker who chose to break away from the footwear production typical of the area in order to build espresso machines for bars, based on a patent by Bezzera from 1901. In 1927 the first machine, the “Regina”, came out of that workshop; Rancilio produced many models, both upright and lever-operated, until his death in 1956.
His three sons, Francesco, Antonio and Romano, carried on the company, transforming it from a craft enterprise into a modern and international business. In 1971 Marco Zanuso, founder of Italian industrial design, designed the “Z8” for Rancilio, the last machine produced in the old factory before the move to an area of over 70,000 square metres, and a symbol of the shift to a modern corporate culture.
In 2010 the family created the company museum Officina Rancilio 1926 in the very place of the first workshop, in via Galeazzi. The space, about 150 square metres and dominated by orange in homage to the Z8, houses the collection and the photographic archive of the company and the family, and hosts temporary exhibitions, educational workshops, conferences and meetings.
