About the museum
The Zucchi Collection is housed in Rescaldina, at the production site of the historic textile company Bassetti, now part of the Zucchi group. It holds hand-printing blocks for fabric, made of wood and metal, produced between the late 18th century and the early 20th century, and traces three centuries of textile culture in Europe.
The collection comprises over 56,000 blocks made by English, French and Austrian craftsmen for around 12,000 designs, and more than a thousand copper blocks for wax-resist printing (batik) from Java. The pieces have been classified and restored according to museum criteria and arranged in six style chapters: cashmere, floral, ornamental, pictorial, abstract and geometric. An archive documents the provenance and conservation of each object.
The route includes a film about the stages of hand printing and a hands-on experience: under the guidance of a master printer, visitors can touch the blocks and try printing a piece of fabric.
