About the museum
The museum is located at the top of Monte Bisbino, above Cernobbio, in the complex of the sanctuary of the Beata Vergine del Bisbino, known since 1368. The complex includes a church, a portico, a bell tower and the refreshment hut, heir to an ancient pilgrims’ hospice, as well as the museum.
The collection documents the natural history of the mountain, the lives of its inhabitants and the events that have affected the mountain over time. Themes mentioned by tourist sources include the era of smuggling along the border with Switzerland and the rural activities of the past.
The summit also preserves traces of the First World War, when the Bisbino was fortified as part of the defensive line of the Intelvese: trenches, artillery positions and tunnels. The summit can be reached on foot from Cernobbio, or by car along the military road built during the war, now a municipal road.
