About the museum
The Pinacoteca civica di Bondeno is named after the 20th-century Bolognese artist Galileo Cattabriga (1901–1969) and holds the municipality’s art heritage, which exceeds two hundred works; a core of about sixty paintings, graphic works and sculptures is on display in the rooms.
The collection is devoted mainly to modern and contemporary art, with works by artists such as Tono Zancanaro, Remo Brindisi, Nanni Tedeschi, Guglielmo Sansoni (Tato) and Carlo Rambaldi. The oldest work is the Saint John the Evangelist by Simone Cantarini, a pupil of Guido Reni, from the 17th century, given to the municipality in 1877 by the Marquis Gioacchino Napoleone Pepoli, who stayed at the villa in Stellata from 1870 to 1877. Two Baroque wooden reliquaries depicting saints are also preserved.
Sculptures by Stefano Galletti, Gaetano Galvani, Giuseppe Busuoli, Luisa Bemporad, Gianni Guidi and Riccardo Biavati are displayed in the gallery. A room on the ground floor hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists.
