About the museum
The Budrio picture gallery originates from the donation of Captain Domenico Inzaghi, who left his paintings and prints to the Partecipanza agraria, the community that managed the common lands of the area, in the first decades of the 19th century. In 1931 the collection passed to the Municipality of Budrio, and the gallery was opened to the public under the care of Antonio Certani.
The museum is housed in the Palazzo della Partecipanza, in Via Mentana, which also houses the Teatro Consorziale. Between 1988 and 1989 it was reorganised and enriched with paintings from the Opera Pia Bianchi and from the Fondazione Benni of Bologna. A branch, the Torrione del Risorgimento, illustrates the history of Budrio in the 19th century.
The collection is devoted mainly to Bolognese and Emilian painting from the 14th to the 18th century, with works by Vitale da Bologna, Simone dei Crocifissi, Dosso Dossi, Prospero and Lavinia Fontana, Bartolomeo Passerotti, Denis Calvaert and Simon Vouet. It is complemented by a large collection of drawings and prints, including engravings by Dürer and Jacques Callot.
