About the museum
Reptiland was founded in 1989 as a natural science gallery and herpetology centre within the rooms of the Galleria Città di Riva, in Piazza Garibaldi in the centre of Riva del Garda, a short walk from the lake and the Rocca. The exhibition is designed for those who approach the natural sciences and want to pass on to visitors passion, respect and care for nature conservation through study and knowledge.
The route presents live reptiles, arachnids and insects, species that have survived from very ancient groups of animals. Visitors can see venomous and non-venomous snakes, including cobras, green mambas, rattlesnakes and Indian pythons, as well as the red-kneed spider, the emperor scorpion, the Goliath beetle, the stick insect and numerous butterflies, such as the owl butterfly, the leaf butterfly and the cobra butterfly.
The centre is run by Stefano Bin and works with veterinarians and experts in herpetology and natural history. It is aimed both at enthusiasts and at those studying the natural sciences.
