About the museum
The museum was founded in December 2000 by Achille Foletto and occupies the rooms of a historic family pharmacy in Pieve di Ledro. It presents the pharmaceutical and botanical heritage of the Foletto family, which dates back to the mid-19th century. It all began with Angelo Foletto, a young student who catalogued many local plant species.
The route shows the technological and scientific evolution of the profession, from the ancient apothecary (speziale) to the pharmacist-chemist, with a botany section and a herbarium compiled by Angelo Foletto between 1890 and 1895. Antique instruments and machines such as stills and mortars are also on display.
Next to the exhibition rooms, workshops are held, some of them bilingual, in which visitors prepare creams, soaps, lozenges or syrups based on herbs. Many visits end with a tasting of craft liqueurs made on the spot with local ingredients. The museum is part of the Ledro museum network and has a pharmacist’s garden.
