About the museum
The Sacrario delle Bandiere, housed in the Vittoriano complex, has since 1935 held the war flags of disbanded units of the Army, Air Force, Carabinieri and other State armed corps, together with the combat flags and standards of decommissioned Navy (Marina Militare) units.
Inside is the Sacello del Milite Ignoto, where the Unknown Soldier was entombed on 4 November 1921. In the chapel of the Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland), located in the Sacello, a Mass in memory of all the fallen is celebrated on the second Sunday of every month.
Public access is ensured by Armed Forces personnel (Forze Armate); the Sacrario is part of the national memorial route of the symbols of the State and the Armed Forces.
