About the museum
The museum was set up to introduce visitors to bread baking and to honour traditional Latvian rye bread. It displays hundreds of tools for grain processing and baking, for example spriguļi, bread peels for placing loaves in the oven, and abra.
The hostess welcomes visitors in Latgalian national costume, with folk songs and a greeting in the local dialect. During the visit you can learn the history of bread and how rye bread is made, bake your own rye bread loaf to take home, taste freshly baked bread, try grinding grain and taste Latgalian dishes. Celebrations can also be held at the museum.
