About the museum
From 1883 to 1891 Rainis spent his summers at Jasmuiža while he was at school and university; his father, Krišjānis Pliekšāns, rented and managed the manor. The museum is the only Rainis museum in Latgale, and it is located in a quiet rural setting on the Jaša river.
The museum buildings, the open-air stage and the park of more than 5 hectares form a monument of national historical significance. In the restored manager's house there is an exhibition on Rainis's school and student years; in the former manor barn is a hall with more than 200 Latgalian ceramic objects; and the restored workshop of Andrejs Paulāns, with its kiln, shows the working environment of Latgalian ceramicists at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum hosts season opening events, kiln firings and the annual poetry days.
