About the museum
The Daugavpils Novadpētniecības un mākslas muzejs (Daugavpils Museum of Local History and Art) was founded in 1938 and is one of the oldest and largest museums in Latgale. It is located in the centre of Daugavpils, in an Art Nouveau building that is a cultural and historical architectural monument.
The museum has 17 rooms with cultural history and natural history exhibitions and various temporary exhibitions, which can also be viewed with a guide or audio guide. It offers a wide range of museum education programmes, city tours and the opportunity to look behind the scenes on a tour of the collection store.
Every year the museum holds Museum Night events, the International Puppet Festival and the Patriotic Week, and on the last Sunday of every month a Family Day with creative workshops. The museum's structural units are the folk applied art studios “Latgale” and “Klūga”, where visitors can learn ceramics and weaving skills, as well as the Daugavpils Māla mākslas centrs, which promotes the art of ceramics.
