About the museum
The centre presents šmakovka, a traditional Latgalian strong drink. In three exhibition halls covering about 290 m², more than 200 exhibits are on display; the oldest of them dates from 1890. Interactive technologies and authentic production equipment show how the drink is made, while old photographs and documents can be seen on digital displays. The exhibition also addresses the consequences of alcohol use.
Visitors can take a guided tour, use an audio guide or take part in the quest “Latgales šmakovkas noslēpumi” (The Secrets of Latgalian Šmakovka). The centre is located in the Vienības nams, with the entrance from the Vienības laukums side.
