About the museum
Martinsona māja (Martinsons House) is located in the former powder cellar of the 7th bastion of the Daugavpils Fortress, built in 1860. The idea for the house arose in 2013, shortly after the death of the ceramicist Pēteris Martinsons (1931–2013), who had donated his works to the Rotko centrs (Rotko Centre). The building was restored from April 2020 to October 2021, co-financed by the European Union's cross-border cooperation programme. The house opened on 22 April 2022.
The permanent exhibition “Sapņu pilsēta” (City of Dreams) shows works by the ceramicist, born in Daugavpils, created from 1963 to 2013 in various techniques and materials. Alongside the permanent exhibition, ceramics exhibition projects take place, and in the open storage visitors can see the ceramics collection of the Rotko muzejs.
