About the museum
In “Billītes” in Salgale parish, the Latvian poet, writer and translator Edvarts Virza (1883–1940) and the poet and teacher Elza Stērste (1885–1976) lived for many years. Many poems were written here, and in 1933 Virza wrote the story “Straumēni”, the most extensive portrayal of Latvian peasant life. The house is now set up as a museum, created by the poets' daughter Amarillis Liekna and her family.
