About the museum
The museum of the writer Herberts Dorbe is set up in the Dorbe family home, built in 1960 in the Ventspils private-house district known as Gāliņciems. The museum holds the literary legacy of the writer Herberts Dorbe (1894–1983) and of other writers from Ventspils.
For children, the museum offers the chance to get to know the characters from Dorbe’s fairy tale “Tas notika Kaķpēdiņu bulvārī” (It Happened on Kaķpēdiņi Boulevard, 1971), to assemble puzzles based on the fairy tale’s illustrations and to read extracts from the primer compiled by Dorbe (1930). The garden cultivated by Valija and Herberts Dorbe is also a delight, where pupils are invited to study the trees growing there.
