About the museum
The exhibition is set up in the former telegraph tower, which belonged to the Kuldīga needle factory “Meteors”. The factory was founded in 1854 as the only needle factory in the entire Russian Empire, and its products reached every home in the empire. After the needle production was closed in 1910, the building was turned into the town hospital.
Today, with support from the INTERREG Estonia–Latvia cooperation programme, an exhibition on the industrial heritage of the needle has been set up on all four floors of the tower. On the ground floor is the Neolithic environment “Ala” with a bone needle and a touchscreen with a virtual exhibition; on the first floor, the development of the needle in sewing and medicine; on the second floor, music, art and geography; and on the third floor, the history of the needle factories in Kuldīga and Latvia.
